Employment
The BC-Alberta Social Economy Research Alliance (BALTA) employs a range of paid student research assistants each year. Some positions are short term (i.e. 3-4 months) while others are of longer duration. With most of the research program wrapping up in 2010, the number of new positions will be small. However, please check this site regularly if you are interested in employment with BALTA.
Students employed by BALTA must normally meet the following criteria:
- Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or holder of a valid Canadian employment visa or work permit issued by the federal government;
- Currently enrolled at a BC or Alberta college or university.
Specific qualifications for individual positions may vary, but the following general qualifications apply for most positions:
- The ability to work to deadlines and handle diverse work tasks;
- An ability to effectively communicate ideas, both spoken and written;
- Excellent computer skills;
- Familiarity with the appropriate research methodologies required for the project (i.e., survey design, organizing focus groups, undertaking detailed literature reviews, etc.) and a willingness to learn new research skills;
- Some familiarity with the social economy is preferred but not mandatory;
- A demonstrated ability to work independently and an interest in interdisciplinary research.
