The principal funder for the BC-Alberta Social Economy Research Alliance (BALTA) is the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC). BALTA is funded as part of a five year SSHRC initiative called the Social Economy Suite. This program funds BALTA, five other regional research partnerships in other parts of Canada and a National Hub for these Canadian Social Economy Research Partnerships (CSERP). SSHRC is providing BALTA with $1,750,000 in funding over five years.
BALTA has also received funding from the Government of Canada's Rural and Co-operatives Secretariat.
The partner organizations that make up BALTA also contribute significant resources, both cash and in-kind, in support of BALTA and its research and communication programs. (See list of BALTA Partners).
